Foreign brands export cars from Russia

20

The Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are working together on a project for new measures to support industrial assembly of cars in Russia. This is what today's Kommersant is writing about.

Currently, there are two modes of industrial assembly in the country. Foreign car manufacturers receive customs privileges in exchange for localization of their production. The first regime, launched in 2005, envisages production of 350,000 cars, localization of components at 60% and financial investments in development and research. In 2015, a second regime was introduced, offering the production capacity of at least 25,000 cars with at least 30% of components produced in Russia.

With both regimes soon to come to an end, in 2017 and 2018, the government has begun to create a third regime, the main issue being the level of localization.
