Russian scientists are developing a new method of cancer treatment using nanoparticles

47

Russian scientists are developing a domestic platform technology for combined radiotherapy of oncological diseases. This is reported by "Gazeta.Ru" with reference to the press service of the program of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia "Priority 2030".

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is working on the project together with the Russian Scientific Center of Radiology and Surgical Technologies named after Academician A.M. Granov.

It is assumed that a radioactive isotope with a therapeutic effect will be delivered to the cancer itself. Nanoparticles are used as a delivery system. According to scientists, this will not expose the entire body to radiation.

"The uniqueness of our technology lies in the fact that it is platform-based and allows treating a wide class of diseases: based on the therapeutic task, it is possible to change not only the radioactive isotope itself, but also the nanoparticle in which it consists", —

I told the newspaper.Ru" Albert Muslimov, researcher at the Laboratory of Microcapsulation and Controlled Delivery of Biologically Active Compounds of the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnologies of SPbPU.

According to scientists, there are no similar developments in Russia. The creation of a domestic radiopharmaceutical will make the medicine several times cheaper than imported analogues.
