The Arctic Research Consortium is replenished with new members

More than ten universities, colleges and organizations have decided to join the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Research, created by the Northeastern Federal University named after Ammosov (NEFU) together with the Government of Yakutia and the Northern Forum for Sustainable Development.

According to NEFU Rector Anatoly Nikolaev, to date, the consent to join the consortium has been given by the Oceanological University of China, Yugra State University, Taimyr College, National Research Tomsk State University, Murmansk State Technical University, St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs, Northeastern State University, Institute of Economics and Industrial Production Organization SB RAS, Petrozavodsk State University, Nenets Agricultural and Economic College, Association for the Development of Export Potential of Education, Russian State Hydrometeorological University and Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. The number of participants in the initiative will grow: negotiations on joining the consortium of a number of organizations from India and China are continuing; the appearance of partners from South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong is not excluded.

The purpose of the consortium is to create a mechanism for the implementation of joint project activities on the study of current problems of sustainable development of the regions of the North and the Arctic, the development of joint interdisciplinary courses and programs for the development of cooperation in the direction of "Arctic-Asia". The upcoming tasks and the model of the consortium's upcoming work are planned to be determined during the IV Northern Forum on Sustainable Development, which will be held on September 27-30 this year in Yakutsk.

The launch of the consortium's practical activities will have not only scientific, but also important international significance. The consolidation of Russian and foreign partners around the agenda of sustainable development in high latitudes will create conditions for further strengthening the dialogue between Russia and Asian countries – and strengthening our country's leadership in the study and development of the Arctic.
