Russia and the Middle East countries can switch to settlements in national currencies

40

Russia and the countries of the Middle East are actively working on the transition to mutual settlements in national currencies, as well as the use of alternative SWIFT systems for transmitting financial information. This statement was made by the head of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Kinshchak.

According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation are pushing the country to adapt cooperation with Middle Eastern partners to the new realities. One of such mechanisms is the transition to mutual settlement in national currencies, RIA Novosti reports.

"Active work with our Middle Eastern partners in this direction is already underway and, of course, will continue," Kinshchak said, commenting on the need to put a reliable barrier in the way of such voluntarism on the part of the United States and its allies. In particular, Kinschak drew attention to the fact that the new mechanism would allow for settlements using "a system of financial information transmission that is not subject to anyone's selfish interests and opportunistic preferences."

For example, it can be developed by analogy with the current SWIFT system.
