Turkey became the largest buyer of Russian grain

Turkey bought almost 8 million tonnes of grain from Russia in 2020, becoming the largest consumer of domestic crop. This is 31% higher than last year's figures.

Turkey buys grain from Russia for further resale of the flour it produces.

Previously this position was held by Egypt for four years. However, according to media reports, after Ukraine's intervention, the North African country reduced its imports of Russian grain by 23%, to 5.9m tonnes.

Thus, in the first decade of this month, Egypt's main grain tender was won by Ukraine, which offered 210 dollars per tonne of its grain against the 213 dollars offered by Russia for domestic wheat.

Some of the major buyers of Russian products are Iran, which imported 4.43 million tons, up 58% year-on-year. Also in the top five are Bangladesh (2.2m tonnes) and Saudi Arabia (1.63m tonnes).
