Tomsk developers' flaw detector was included in the list of 100 best inventions in Russia

Thermal flaw detector for aviation, which was created at Tomsk Polytechnic University, became one of the hundred best inventions in Russia.

The corresponding list was published by Rospatent based on the results of the last year and the first half of the current year. Thermal flaw detector for aviation industry was among the inventions. It was created by the engineers of the educational institution.

The device creates "thermal picture" of aviation materials and parts that allows detecting structural defects of composites. For example, it can be used to detect damage that occurred after birds, hail or lightning hit the aircraft. The flaw detector can be used at the stage of production of components and during their use.

In our country there are no analogues of such equipment, and compared with foreign examples, the Russian flaw detector has unique software. As Vladimir Vavilov, head of TPU's Heat Control Laboratory, explained, the software makes it possible to model in advance the material control procedure in order to select the optimum mode.

In addition, the domestically produced device has over 10 algorithms for data processing. Existing flaw detectors on the market, he said, are limited to one basic algorithm and one or two additional algorithms.
