Russia to produce 40-year-old cognac

Winemakers from Krasnodar have announced that this year they will release a 40-year-old cognac on the market.

According to the specialists such an aged beverage will appear this year thanks to the fact that in 1970s their predecessors made the basis for the cognac from the grapes of those years and sent it for distillation and aging.

During this period of time the winemakers monitored the condition of the wine material and made a blend from the spirit of different barrels. Now the basis is ready for further making of cognac, writes TASS.

The elite drink will be prepared in small quantities - about 3.5 thousand liters, which will be poured into 5 thousand bottles, said the producer.

As a reminder, the production of alcohol with such aging in the Krasnodar region has its own traditions. So, in Soviet times, the business was put on stream. Some time later there was a long pause, due to which demanding admirers of the drink had to buy only foreign made cognac, French in particular.

Overall, over the past 5 years, wine exports in Kuban have quadrupled, from 84 thousand decalitres in 2015 to 357 thousand in 2019. By 2024, this figure is expected to increase to 445 thousand decalitres, with more than $7 million in revenue for shipments.
