Belarus plans to gain a foothold in the Russian market

Belarus considers the Russian market to be the main market for its food products. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the country Alexander Subbotin.

According to him, Belarus will try to get a firmer foothold in the Russian food market after the crisis, which occurred worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic, in which many trade relations changed or were disrupted altogether.

Subbotin stressed that Belarus views Russia as its main buyer. He added that Belarus will do everything "to grasp the Russian market with its teeth" and "to defend and even expand the boundaries of the segment, where the country operates even now.

At the same time the Belarusian side will continue supplying its products to other countries. The Vice Premier reminded that at the moment the country exports its produce to over 100 countries. According to him, the main task for Belarus is to find a more expedient approach to export in order to find more favorable terms and to focus on economic expediency.

Last year, Belarus sold about $5.5 billion worth of food products to Russia, up 3% from 2018.
