Karelsky Kombinat will supply ore concentrate to Brazil

Karelian Pellet, one of Russia's leading iron ore mining and processing companies, is exporting iron ore pellets to Brazil for the first time.

The Russian company will ship a total of more than 100 thousand tons of products to the South American country. It is intended for Brazil's largest iron and steel holding Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN).

Maksim Vorobyov, the head of the domestic plant, explained that low-base flux pellets have become the most suitable for CSN production among the whole range of Karelian Pellet. He shared that the parties studied together how they could be used in the blast furnace charge of the foreign enterprise.

The agreement on Karelian Pellet's cooperation with the Brazilian holding is a continuation of the implementation of the sales diversification strategy.

Pavel Nekhvoroshch, Head of Supply Chain and Raw Materials Sales of Severstal's Raw Materials Sales and Procurement Directorate, which includes the company, stressed the importance of expanding the geography of the company's exports without sacrificing the profit margin that comes from the mainstream. According to him, trade with Brazil was a good experience to develop and to enter new markets.

Pellets will be shipped from Kostomuksha to the port of Kokkola in Finland and from there to Brazilian port of unloading Sepetiba, which is situated in Rio de Janeiro.

Previously, the plant shipped its products to the UAE, Trinidad and Tobago.
