Russia has started development on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago

Engineering surveys and geological exploration have started at the Paflovskoye ore field on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. The work is being carried out by the 'First Mining Company'.

The first well in the Bezymyannaya Bay, 11 meters deep, has already been completed.

Comprehensive works are carried out within the framework of Pavlovskoye lead-zinc deposit commercial development project to estimate mineral resources and ore reserves in accordance with the international JORC code.

This is expected to have a positive impact on the economic attractiveness of the project, lead to an increase in additional financing and eventually agreements will be signed with the main partners, including long-term sales contracts.

The purpose of the engineering surveys is to find optimal technical solutions, as this will reduce the capital investment for the implementation of the Arctic project.

About 100 workers were flown to the South Island to do the work, also four drilling rigs and 15 units of auxiliary equipment were delivered here by barge. By the start of the field season two camps for the employees have been established on the bank of Bezymyannaya Bay and in the field area.

Drillers will have to complete 45 wells, after which wells, drilling pads and underground ways will be remediated.

According to Igor Semenov, the executive director of the company, the company is first of all guided by the environmental legislation of the country and tries to minimize the environmental impact at any stage of work.

This year's field season is the final stage of the field study. Engineering survey and geological exploration are to be completed here by October 1.

It should be reminded that unique exploration works were performed at the northernmost lead-zinc deposit of our country during 2013-2015. The results of these works allowed to specify the ore reserves and learn the information on their technological properties, hydrogeological and mining and technical conditions of the deposit development.
