Russia cuts barriers to trade with Eurasian Union countries

A meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission was held to discuss whether the instructions of the governments of the parties to remove all barriers on the internal market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which were given in January, had been fulfilled.

In the first three months of this year Russia has removed two barriers to the EEU goods from the list of the Intergovernmental Council. These are additional requirements for transportation and conformity assessment of goods.

In addition, as noted during the meeting, a few days ago, Russia quickly resolved the issue related to the removal of restrictions on the import and transit of food products made in Belarus.

Since autumn 2019, the Russian Federation has eliminated 10 barriers under the coordination of the Ministry of Economic Development. Our country is one of the leaders among the EAEU member states in this direction. According to the first deputy head of the economic ministry, Mikhail Babich, Russia considers it a priority to ensure that the Union functions as a barrier-free environment.

In order to remove barriers to the EEU enterprises, the Ministry carries out regular monitoring. For example, thanks to it discriminatory conditions, which were used to issue recycling fee concessions for agricultural equipment in Kazakhstan, were abolished. Because of this Russian entrepreneurs could not compete with foreign equipment in Kazakhstan.

At the meeting the Russian Federation raised the question of the need to eliminate the ban on the export of scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metals by rail and road transport in Kazakhstan to Russia. This barrier hindered primarily domestic metallurgists who use raw materials from Kazakhstan in their production activities.
