New satellite testing completed in Russia

The Russian military have tested a new inspection satellite. It was used to test a domestic spacecraft, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

During the testing of the latest models of space technology it was possible to inspect one of the national satellites at close range using specialized equipment of a small spacecraft. This allowed getting valuable information about the technical state of the object under inspection, which was later sent to the ground control facilities, as the department noted.

The spacecraft has an inspection capability, i.e. it is able to maneuver in space by approaching other space objects. Such actions can be performed for peaceful purposes in order to carry out an external inspection of certain objects, to perform refueling and repairing of satellites. At the same time it can be used during military operations, namely, for a certain impact on spacecraft of a potential or real enemy.

Recall that in the Soviet Union, the school of development and production of inspection satellites was organized in the Chelomey Firm. We are talking about the chief designer of the Experimental Design Bureau and Plant 51 (now it is the Research and Production Association of Machine Building in Reutov, which is part of the Tactical Missile Arms Corporation).

Earlier the American company SpaseX cancelled the launch of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle with another group of the Starlink Internet satellites. The launch was planned from the base of the United States Air Force, located at Cape Canaveral.

It is worth noting that the company launches Starlink in order to organize the global Internet network and improve the quality of wireless network coverage worldwide.

The tenth launch of the project was scheduled for July 11, but later it was decided to postpone it indefinitely in order to conduct additional monitoring.
