About 40 passenger ships will be built in Russia

The number of new passenger vessels to be built at Russian shipyards will almost double in the next few years from 20 to 39 units. This statement was made by Boris Kabakov, the Head of Shipbuilding Industry and Marine Equipment Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade during the ceremony of keel laying of head vessel of project A45-90.2 "Andrei Dubensky".

He called the event significant for renewal of the passenger fleet and added that at the moment two dozens of vessels are under construction and soon 39 vessels of different tonnage will be built.

According to the representative of the agency, support measures aimed at upgrading the passenger fleet are sufficient. The main measure, as emphasized Kabakov, is a preferential leasing program.

At the same time, the most important factor in the construction of the new fleet is the interest of local authorities in the development of passenger traffic.

Let us remind that on Thursday the governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, informed that the second vessel to be used on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands was launched at Nevsky Shipbuilding-Shiprepair Plant. The vessel named "Pavel Leonov" will carry about 150 passengers as well as different cargoes including containers and cars.
