Greenhouses of 10 hectares will be opened in Primorye

Residents of Mikhailovsky Advanced Development Territory in Primorye intend to open 10 hectares of greenhouses by the end of this year.

This will make it possible to grow up to 8,000 tonnes of vegetables annually.

According to the head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture Andrei Brons, starting this year, the farm greenhouses began to subsidize in order to cover the need for vegetables in the off-season and eventually to replace imported products.

After the implementation of the first stage of the greenhouse farms they will grow about 7-8 thousand tons of vegetables.

Today in the region there are greenhouses in the city of Partizansk and the village of Surazhevka, their total area is 10 hectares. In 2019, agricultural workers grew about 1.5 thousand tons of vegetables here.

According to plans, in 4 years Primorsky Krai will provide itself with vegetables by 70%. At the moment, this figure is 41%.

Introduction in winter 2020 of restrictions on freight traffic with China led to a rise in prices in the Far Eastern regions of the country for products that were imported from there. Particularly, we are talking about tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, since most of the region's demand for these goods is met by China.

On the previous day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that farmers in the Russian Far East should begin to provide their regions with vegetables by 2024, at the rate of the national average, and stated the need to reduce the share of imported vegetables in the district.
