A gas-fueled motor rally takes place in Russia

Russia is holding a motor rally called 'Vacation by Car' aimed at promoting and demonstrating the advantages of natural gas as a motor fuel.

A convoy of natural gas-powered vehicles started from St. Petersburg; it will have to cross the entire country and reach Yakutsk Mirny. The Made in Russia project was told about it by the Yakutia Press Service in Moscow.

This summer ALROSA diamond mining company was the initiator of such rally.

The rally will cover the territory of more than two dozen Russian regions. Taking part in the rally are a Lada Largus, a Scania truck and a NefAZ bus. It is to be noted that the column will be joined by other vehicles along the way.

The first city to be visited by the participants is Tikhvin in the Leningrad region.

Business meetings with the leading Russian gas-powered vehicles manufacturers will be held during the event. Special attention will be paid to the cities, participants of the Pure Air federal project, which are actively implementing natural gas vehicles.

According to the organizers, one of the main objectives is to unite all the subsoil users in the region and to create a convenient gas fuelling infrastructure.

According to experts, the use of natural gas as a motor fuel reduces costs by approximately 2 to 3 times, and this has a positive effect on the entire pricing chain. Besides, carbon dioxide emissions from methane-fuelled vehicles are 2-3 times lower than those of gasoline-powered ones, and nitrogen emissions are 90 per cent lower than those of diesel vehicles. There is also no soot or sulfur compounds in the exhausts of gas-powered vehicles, so the air is 9 times less smoky and polluted.
