The deadline for achieving the volume of freight traffic along the Northern Sea Route under the May decrees may be shifted

Transportation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) will reach 80 million tons by 2030, not by 2024, says Sergey Buyanov, General Director of the Central Research Institute of the Navy.

He explained that structurally the cargo turnover along this sea route consists of three groups. In this case, we are talking about hydrocarbons produced in the Arctic, the cargo as part of the Northern Delivery and transit traffic. According to him, the pandemic has already affected transportation, so the volume of 80 million tons, which was planned to be achieved by 2024, may be reduced.

It should be noted that from the May decrees, it is necessary to increase the cargo transportation through the NSR up to 80 million tons by 2024. A year earlier this volume exceeded 31 million tons. By the results of this year it will reach 32 million tons.

In July this year, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev did not rule out that the figure may be adjusted.
