One of Russia's five largest pork meat producers Sibagro intends to buy a competitor - the Ural agrarian company Ariant. The cost of the deal is estimated at up to 9 billion rubles; after it is completed, Sibagro will become the second player in the market after the agro-industrial holding Miratorg.

According to media reports, negotiations can be completed by the end of the year.

According to the National Union of Pork Producers (NUP), last year "Sibagro" produced more than 240 thousand tons of meat in live weight and took 5.5% of the domestic pork market, being in the fifth place in the country. In addition, the company produces sausages, semi-finished products, poultry and eggs. The company consists of 11 facilities, most of which are based in Siberia, and is headquartered in Tomsk.

"Ariant calls itself the largest producer of meat products in the Urals. According to the NSSS data the company has produced over 94 thousand tons of pork in live weight last year, having taken 2.1% of the market.

The company consists of 7 pork complexes, a feed mill, it also includes sites for the production of sausages. Ariant manages a chain of 350 shops. Last year the company generated almost RUB 14 bn of revenue, which is 20.24% less than a year before.
