Dairy product labeling will be extended to all types of products

Dairy product labelling will be introduced comprehensively for the entire range of products. This was announced by Dzhambulat Khatuov, deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

He noted that the introduction of labeling is aimed at protecting consumers. Thus, customers will be able to recognize the date of production, manufacturer, ingredients and composition of the product by a bar code.

The department believes that this algorithm will not cause disruptions in production and sales.

Marking of dairy products in a pilot mode began in the mid-summer of 2019, it will terminate at the end of this year, and from January 20, 2021 also mark milk and cream without added sugar, which have a shelf life of more than 28 days, and ice cream.

In addition, from the middle of the next year it is proposed to introduce marking for milk and cream with a shelf life of less than 28 days, cheese, butter, dairy paste, cottage cheese and soft drinks with milk fat, and in autumn from 2021 - for buttermilk, yoghurt, kefir and condensed milk.

Farms that sell their own dairy products are expected to get a delay in labeling until October 2022.
