Head of St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines pointed to opportunities to develop exports to Latin America

Viktor Trukhin, Director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Sera of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of the Russian Federation, spoke about the possibility for Russian companies to enter the market in Latin American countries.

He reminded that in Nicaragua the Latin American Institute of Biotechnology Mechnikov, which was built by FMBA on behalf of the Russian President, is successfully operating.

"Today Mechnikov Institute is the only immunobiological enterprise in Central America, a Russian research base in the region, and can act as an entry point into the huge Latin American market for Russian companies," Trukhin said.

In addition, the director of the institute spoke about the Institute's experience in launching its own flu vaccine in the Latin American market and shared the nuances of interaction with the highest regulatory authority.

Mr. Trukhin also highlighted the importance of common efforts in increasing exports of domestic pharmaceutical products and emphasized the need to continue dealing with issues related to foreign supplies.

According to his opinion, if we deal with these issues "with the same consistency and energy" as it was during last eight months, then the process can be "made avalanche-like".

It should be noted that the St. Petersburg Scientific Research Institute is one of the recognized leaders in the field of development and production of flu vaccines in Russia.
