The world's most powerful nuclear-powered icebreaker "Arktika" joined the Russian nuclear fleet

The nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika of Project 22220, the most powerful in the world, has officially become part of the Russian nuclear fleet.

The Russian flag was hoisted on the vessel. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin. The heads of Atomflot Mustafa Kashka and Baltiysky Zavod Aleksey Kadilov put their signatures in the delivery and acceptance act.

It should be noted that these icebreakers are the largest and the most powerful ones all over the world. They are used for ensuring the country's leadership in the Arctic and can escort vessels in caravans, breaking the ice up to three meters thick. The icebreaker can also be used at the mouths of polar rivers and directly in the Arctic Ocean.

At the end of September, the Arktika icebreaker left the Baltic plant embankment in St. Petersburg and headed towards Murmansk. The ship arrived in its home port last week after being tested and moored at the moorings of the Atomflot base, which belongs to the state-owned Rosatom corporation.
