Valery Todorovsky's Production Centre, together with the state corporation Rosatom, produced a multiseries feature film about the creation of the first atomic bomb in the USSR. The first episode of the film, titled "The Bomb", will be shown on Russia-1 TV channel on November 9.

The film is set in the period from the summer of 1945 to August 1949. Main characters - scientists-physicists who participate in the realization of the atomic project, are friends and are in love with the same woman. A dramatic story of love and exploits of the main characters is unfolding against the backdrop of a confrontation of world powers.

All of the main characters are fictitious, but the film features real historical figures such as the scientific director of the atomic project Igor Kurchatov, the scientific director of KB-11 Yuli Khariton and statesmen Lavrenti Beria and Boris Vannikov.

The film also includes memoirs of real participants of the atomic project.

The film was directed by Igor Kopylov. The main roles were performed by Yevgeny Tkachuk, Yevgeniya Brik and Viktor Dobronravov.

Movie producer Valeri Todorovsky called the series quite rare, because it is the story of scientists, not the military or heroes of the special services.

"I think that first of all, of course, it's a story about brains. Because we're used to making films about brawn or fighting spirit, but there are very few films about heroes who are willing to trade their lives for an interesting idea," he said.

The action takes place in several locations at once - in Moscow, in the Urals, in Sarov, Semipalatinsk, as well as in Copenhagen and the United States.

For example, in the Russian capital shooting took place including the Institute of Physical Problems Kapitsa. Some sites were built specifically for the film. So, on a farm next to Rostov-on-Don erected Semipalatinsk landfill structures. The landfill itself thus removed in the steppes near Taganrog.

The preparation for the movie, during which the crew studied special literature and archives and consulted with experts and eyewitnesses of those events took more than a year.
