Russia may start exporting helicopter engines to South Korea

Rostec United Engine Corporation has certified in South Korea an engine for the civilian Mi-171A2 helicopter for subsequent export.

The permit issued to the Russian manufacturer confirms the engine's compliance with Korean requirements.

The certified turboshaft engine is the latest modification of the VK-2500. It can be used on Mi and Ka helicopters. The engine passed successful tests back in 2016.

The overhaul and design life of the new engine is twice as long as that of its predecessor. Thus, operability of the VK-2500PS-03 engine is ensured within the temperature range of minus 50 to plus 60 degrees Centigrade. It can steadily operate at an altitude of up to 6 thousand meters.

According to VK-2500 program director Evgeni Prodanov, the engine ensures reliable operation of the helicopter even in complicated conditions. The certification obtained, he noted, will make it possible to launch deliveries to Korea in the future.

In addition, the relevant documents were also obtained in India, China, Brazil and Colombia.
