The pandemic has triggered a decline in coal production in Yakutia

Coal mining companies in Yakutia extracted 15.9 million tons of coal between January and October this year, the press service of the republic's Ministry of Industry and Geology said.

The drop in mining volumes is due to the pandemic, the republic's press center explained. Also due to China's export restrictions, shipments of solid fuel abroad decreased. For example, coal shipments from Yakutia in 2020 accounted for 17.5% (1.6 million tons) of the total fuel exported.

Kolmar, which extracted 5.3 million tonnes, had the highest extraction rate. It is followed by Yakutugol with the result of 4.8 million tons. Elgaugol (4.7 million tons of coal) was the third largest coal producer in the region.

According to the plans, Yakutia's coal production will reach about 20 million tons of solid fuel by the end of the year.
