Wind power plants started operating in Kalmykia and the Rostov region

The Wind Energy Development Fund commissioned three wind farms (WEC) in December. Two of them are located in Kalmykia, another one in the Rostov Region.

Near Rostov-on-Don, the first stage of the Cossack wind farm was commissioned, while in Kalmykia the Salynskaya and Tselinskaya wind farms started supplying electricity to the wholesale market. They became the largest generation facilities in the region.

Forty-eight wind turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW each were installed on their territory. Production of blades and towers was localised in Ulyanovsk and Taganrog, the nacelle was assembled at the Dzerzhinsk enterprise.

The degree of localization of wind farm equipment exceeds 65%.

According to Batu Khasikov, head of Kalmykia, wind energy ensures safety for the environment and is more cost-effective at the same time. He stressed that wind farms in the republic were built and put into operation on time, despite the pandemic.

With the launch of the Tselinskaya and Salynskaya stations, the power system of the region got its own major source of green generation, with an annual output of about 525 million kWh. This will almost completely cover the republic's deficit.

The share of renewable energy sources in the region's energy mix is expected to reach 90% by 2022, making the region one of the leaders in carbon-free development in the country. This, in turn, may attract additional investors who are interested in a green energy mix.

12 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW each have been commissioned at the Cossack wind farm in the Rostov region.
