The Union of Exporters commented on the growth of duties on grain

Russian agrarians will benefit from the introduction of duties on grain exports from the country. However, in order for consumers to notice the effect of lowered grain prices, the transparency of product pricing should be increased, said Eduard Zernin, chairman of the board of the Russian Union of Grain Exporters.

Earlier the Russian government resolved to raise the export duty rate for wheat within export quota from March 1 from 25 to 50 euro per ton and to impose duties on corn (25 euro per ton) and barley (10 euro per ton) from March 15.

Such restrictions, according to Zernin, were initiated by Russian poultry farmers, livestock breeders and flour mills, RIA Novosti reported. He believes that agrarians "will surely seize the moment, reduce purchase prices of grain and increase their margin. However, the representative of the Union of Exporters doubts that consumers will fully benefit from the price reduction.

For this purpose it is necessary to increase transparency of food price formation "from field to shelf" and then one can be sure that everyone in Russia, not only businessmen, will benefit from the duties.
