Record harvest of fruits and berries in Russia in 2020

Russia harvested a record 3.6 million tonnes of fruits and berries last year, up 2.2% from 2019. The country mainly grew apples, cherries, plums, cherries, currants, apricots, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.

Despite bad weather in several regions of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts, the gross harvest in the industrial sector set a record, reaching 1.2 million tonnes.

One of the main factors that contributed to the harvest growth was the high rate of establishment of modern intensive orchards and nurseries. The Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, Kabardino-Balkaria, Crimea, and the Lipetsk and Voronezh regions were leaders in this area.

Currently, horticulture is one of the most promising areas of crop production, which has high import substitution potential. This is promoted, among other things, by the activity of investors and state support measures - stimulating subsidies for planting and care of perennial fruit and berry plants, preferential investment and short-term lending.
