Rostov champagne plant stopped production

One of the largest wineries Rostov Champagne Factory has stopped production, said Irina Telarova, director of the Consumer Market Department of the Rostov region.

According to her, now the factory no longer produces wine products. As of January 1 the plant employs 56 people. According to Telarova, the enterprise does not have debts to the staff and compulsory payments to the budget and off-budget funds, writes Interfax.

According to Telarova, Rostshampankombinat will keep its trademarks and now the drinks will be bottled at partner plants. It means that the assortment of champagne wines will be still presented on the shelves of Rostov-on-Don shops and in a "Rostshampanenkombinat" shop.

All in all, the enterprise has been producing about 30 kinds of products. The plant has licenses to produce sparkling wine until December this year and wine drinks without added ethyl alcohol until December 2023.

In January, the media reported that the alcoholic beverage plant had ceased operations.

According to Telarova, last year the company produced more than 143 thousand decaliters (dal) of wine products, this is 1.7 times less than in 2019.

She attributed the drop in production to the entry into force in June 2020 of the law on viticulture and winemaking, which led to a sharp decline in imported wine materials. According to the law, Russian wine can be called wine that was made exclusively from domestic grapes. Telarova specified that since the Rostov Winery did not have its own vineyards, imported wine materials were used to produce the spirits.
