Tests of Russia's first helicopter engine VK-650 B started

The United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation has started tests of the VK-650V engine. It is planned to equip light helicopters Ka-226T and Ansat-U.

The new propulsion system has no analogues in the country.

As part of the first part of the program, the engine was launched for the first time and its key parameters were evaluated.

According to Anatoly Serdyukov, the industrial director of the aviation cluster of Rostec, due to application of modern approaches to design and production of the engine such as 3D-printing it was possible to create a demonstrator and start testing within the established timeline.

The engine, according to him, worked from the first try and all characteristics were confirmed during the first launch.

The new engine is about 12% made from 3D-printed parts. Its takeoff power is 650 hp, it can be used on the domestic light helicopter Ka-226T, modifications of the engine can be installed on Ansat-U, VRT-500 and similar foreign helicopters. The type certificate is scheduled to be received in 2023.
