Rostec increased engine life for Indian training aircraft

The United Engine Corporation of Rostec has created the AL-55I engine, which successfully lifted into the air the Indian training aircraft HJT-36. During development, the engine life was increased to 1.2 thousand hours.

AL-55I is a double-circuit turbojet engine, it is designed for the Indian airliners HJT-36. The modular design of the power plant provides high technology and low operating costs. The digital control system ensures safe piloting and convenient maintenance. At the maximum mode the engine thrust index is 1760 kgf.

During the development stage the engine life time was increased step by step from 100 to 300 hours, and then gradually up to 600, 900 and, finally, to 1200 hours. In this time the engines worked over 5 thousand gas-hours on the stands and passed 4500 cycles of the equivalent-cycle tests.

The power units were tested for operability when foreign objects (birds, hail, etc.) hit them. Also during the test, the engine performance in different weather conditions was confirmed.
