The volume of livestock production in Russia increased by 3% in 2020

The domestic livestock industry showed growth in 2020 in the meat and dairy sectors, according to the website of the country's Ministry of Agriculture.

Experts predict that this trend will continue in 2021.

Production of livestock and poultry for slaughter increased by 3.1% to 15.6 million tons compared to 2019. A special growth of 9% was recorded in pork production. This is due to investment projects and increased export opportunities for suppliers from Russia.

Yuri Kovalev, Director General of the National Union of Pork Producers, stated that every year the increase is about 3-5%. This figure, he said, will grow to 5.8 million tons in live weight by 2025.

The increase in the production of cattle and poultry was 0.3% each. Production of eggs rose by 0.2% to 44.8 billion.

As Sergey Lakhtyukhov, General Director of the National Poultry Farmers Union, pointed out, the industry has been showing stable results for the last few years. Due to that it covers the needs of the population and has a positive effect on import substitution. In the future, it is possible to develop the domestic consumption of poultry meat by increasing the production of turkey and other niche products.
