The Russian Federation issued a license for the world's first power unit with a fast-neutron reactor

Rostechnadzor issued a license to Siberian Chemical Combine in Tomsk Region for construction of the world's first pilot demonstration power unit with a fast-neutron reactor BREST-OD-300.

Such a power unit is needed to test nuclear power technologies of the future.

The 300 MW power unit with the BREST-OD-300 reactor is to become the key facility of the experimental demonstration power complex (ADPC). It is being built in Seversk, Tomsk Oblast.

In addition to the power unit, the JDEC also consists of a complex for the production of mixed uranium-plutonium nitride nuclear fuel for the BREST-OD-300 reactor and a complex for spent fuel reprocessing. The complex will make it possible to create a stationary closed nuclear fuel cycle. This will make it possible to produce electricity and prepare new fuel from that which is discharged from the reactor core.

The reactor is intended to serve as a practical confirmation of the main technical solutions which are incorporated into reactor plants with lead coolant in a so-called closed nuclear fuel cycle and the main provisions of the natural safety concept on which these solutions are based.
