400 million rubles will be allocated for shooting foreign films in Russia

Russia will allocate 400m roubles to shoot foreign films in the country. The decision was approved during a meeting of the presidium of the Presidential Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.

Grants of 100 million rubles will be allocated to compensate part of the cost of foreign film companies in the shooting of films in Russia every year until 2024. It was reported by RNS, citing the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development.

Funding will be provided under the passport of a federal project on systematic measures to develop international cooperation and exports in the years 2021-2024.

It is planned to allocate the specified funds in the first half of this year. The Russian Export Center (REC) acts as the government's agent in distributing the subsidies.

According to Yevgeniya Danilchenko, the REC Creative Industries Export Manager, the organization is addressed not only to the domestic production services, which have foreign partners, but also to the foreign producers who want to shoot in Russia. She noted that the REC plans to begin receiving documents from the film companies in the first quarter.

At the moment, according to the REC, the program intends to take part in 20 projects. Danilchenko added that the amount of 100 million rubles a year is not enough to attract major projects.

Now, for example, Soyuzmultfilm, Riki and Steam Locomotive are waiting for the program to be launched and are in talks with potential partners outside the country.
