The Ministry of Health has approved clinical trials of Russia's first cellular product for knee cartilage replacement, the head of the ministry Mikhail Murashko said.

He said that the Ministry has already issued permission for clinical trials of a biomedical cellular product for knee cartilage repair. The product was developed by Russian scientists. It is expected to replace damaged tissue, thus sparing patients the need for traumatic endoprosthetics.

According to the minister, this is the first biomedical cell product in the Russian Federation submitted for state registration according to the law of the country.

A permit was issued based on the results of the first stage of the biomedical expertise conducted by the specialists of the Scientific Centre for Expertise of Medicinal Products under the Ministry of Health.
