Rosatom will produce traction batteries for electric cars
RENERA, a Rosatom-affiliated company, completed a deal to buy 49% of shares in Enertech International, a South Korean company that produces electrodes, lithium-ion battery cells and energy storage systems.
Under the document, Russia will establish its own production of such cells and energy storage systems. The first stage is expected to be launched in 2025, and by 2030 the expected capacity of the enterprise will be at least 2 GWh.
Domestically produced lithium-ion traction batteries will be installed in electric buses, electric cars and specialized vehicles.
The launch of the new production, as stated by the Russian company, is part of Rosatom's strategic work on the development of non-nuclear businesses. The project will increase the production capacity, substantially strengthen the expertise and development of lithium-ion batteries and open up access to foreign markets.
