The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation intends to oblige phone manufacturers to install domestic search engines in the default browser, writes Kommersant.

The Ministry plans to prepare a corresponding decree by April.

Now under the law, the manufacturers may offer a choice of certain services when activating the smartphone, and users may skip their installation.

In case of signing the prepared decree, the Russian search engine will be installed in the browser by default.

In such a way the authorities want to level the market between domestic and foreign players. In this case, first of all, it is about supporting Yandex, the magazine wrote.

The Ministry also said that from July 1, the users in the country will be able to use the Russian search engine by default. The procedure for the choice will be set by the government.
