Russian scientists create device to measure antibodies to coronavirus at home

Scientists from Bauman Moscow State Technical University have started creating a device to measure the level of antibodies to coronavirus at home.

The new device will be able to detect antibodies by changing the electric field, Izvestia writes.

Specialists use aptamers as biosensitive material. They are short pieces of artificially synthesized DNA or RNA that specifically interact with disease markers. For this purpose, aptamers are applied to a chip that is covered with a conductive layer of reduced graphene oxide.

According to the media, when they bind to antibodies, they acquire an additional electron or, conversely, lose it. This in turn changes the resistance of the conductive layer. Thus the current passing through it increases or decreases, which the device registers.
