Experts told about producers' losses due to oil price regulation

Losses of oil and fats industry due to governmental regulation of sunflower oil cost exceeded 15 billion rubles, RBC reports referring to the calculations of consulting company KPMG.

The authorities, together with several producers and retail chains, signed agreements at the end of 2020 that stipulate a price cap on sunflower oil and sugar. According to the documents, the retail price of oil should not exceed 110 rubles per liter, and the price of one kilogram of sugar should not exceed 46 rubles.

Ilya Strokin, Director of the Center of Competences in Agroindustrial Complex, says that in case of divergence of prices in the domestic market and outside the country producers do not receive about 30 thousand rubles per ton of sold butter. According to the results of the year the lost income may amount to over 50 billion rubles, says "NSN".

The cost regulation, according to the expert, has reduced the price for the products in the Russian Federation, but has provoked a disparity with the cost in the world. On the global market sunflower oil costs over a thousand dollars per ton, and the retail price should be about 200 rubles per bottle instead of 110 rubles, which are set by the authorities.

Mikhail Maltsev, the executive director of the Oil and Fats Union, says that the oil producers lost about 7.5 billion roubles because of the introduced measures. About the same amount of funding is planned in the form of subsidies for producers of fat and oil products by the end of this year.

The Agriculture Ministry believes that this will compensate the companies for a substantial part of the income they lost due to the price stabilization agreements, the newspaper writes.
