The upcoming tourist season in Crimea may become record-breaking

The upcoming holiday season in Crimea may be a record for the post-Soviet period, while rooms in the best hotels in Sochi are already sold out for the May holidays.

According to the chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Resorts and Sports of the State Council of Crimea Alexei Chernyak, a record 7.5 million tourists came to the peninsula in 2019, last year - more than 6 million people. In the summer of 2021, Crimea plans to receive about 8 million travelers. If the plans come to fruition, this figure will be an absolute record for the entire post-Soviet period.

He said that new tourist objects were opened for the forthcoming summer season in Crimea, the existing ones have been repaired, and now there is an upgrade of sanatoriums. The peninsula will welcome travelers with local wine, fish, fruit, oysters and vegetables, TASS writes.

In addition, several festivals, including international festivals, are planned for this period.

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia said that Sochi in this case is already breaking all the records of popularity for the May holidays: many five-star hotels have already suspended their sales.

Thus, almost all brand expensive hotels in the mountain cluster of Sochi announced about sales suspension. However, there are still some places available in hotels with three and four stars.

The same situation, according to the association, is in the coastal region: reservations have been suspended in five-star hotels, while there are still options for accommodation in three- and four-star hotels.
