Event industry loses 110 billion rubles to pandemic

The event industry was one of the hardest hit during the pandemic. Even amid gradual easing of restrictions, the industry will be one of the last to return to offline formats, according to the Roscongress Foundation website.

Industry losses in Russia have exceeded 110 billion rubles, according to the R&C research center.

According to the specialists, now it is necessary to learn how to work correctly in the new environment. Specially for this purpose a conference will be held in Moscow, at which events in the current reality will be discussed.

"Due to the coronavirus pandemic, security and related technologies have become the main trends in the organization of events in 2021. Today, numerous protocols and regulations have been developed, including with our help as representatives of a socially oriented non-financial development institution, without which it is impossible to hold events," said Alexander Stuglev, chairman of the board and director of the Roscongress Foundation.

He added that security has become an integral part of any event ecosystem, and thanks to modern technology, it will soon be possible to minimize contamination and spread of infections.

In addition, probably now, when offline events are gradually returning and the principles of project organization are being revised, it is the right time to introduce green standards for events, said Stuglev. He recalled that the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals suggest that environmental restoration, carbon reduction and maximum digitalization of the economy will soon become the most relevant topics in the world.

"We also consider it our duty to restructure our business in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals," stressed the foundation's director.
