Russian exporters may lose €3 billion a year due to EU carbon tax

Russian exporters will lose more than three billion euros annually due to the introduction of a carbon levy on products by the European Union. The relevant preliminary data were announced by Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Nature of the Russian Federation.

He noted that the basis for changing the economic pattern will be a legislative initiative, which provides for limitation of greenhouse gas emissions, and a strategy of low-carbon development.

In the next two years the European Union intends to introduce a carbon tax on imported products, the production of which releases a large amount of emissions into the atmosphere. Due to this European country expects to equalize the cost of European goods which are produced using more expensive technologies with minimum carbon dioxide emissions with the products which are more harmful for the environment.

According to the media, the potential loss of domestic exports from the levy by 2030 could reach 50 billion euros.
