Brazil banned imports of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V

The Brazilian regulator has banned the import of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus infection Sputnik V into the country, despite the fact that the country's science ministry has declared it safe.

According to Reuters, the pharmaceutical regulator attributed this decision to the fact that there is still insufficient information to guarantee the safety, quality and efficacy of the drug. This, the regulator said, carries "inherent risks".

It is noted that the fact that the vaccine contains adenovirus, a type of DNA virus that can provoke upper respiratory tract diseases, was decisive. In addition, it multiplies rapidly, writes news agency.

Herewith the Gamaleya Centre, the developer of vaccine, has already stated that the drug uses a vector of adenovirus, which cannot multiply.

Earlier the heads of regional governments in Brazil asked for permission to supply the vaccine to fight the second wave of the disease because of the high mortality rate in the country.
