A plant for production of electric buses opened in Moscow

A plant to produce electric buses has been launched in Moscow's Sokolniki.

The new enterprise will make software and electrical part for such vehicles.

The established production facilities will assemble up to 500 electric buses annually. About 20 assembly operations will be performed in Moscow, starting with installation of doors and interior finishing and ending with installation of software which is responsible for control of assemblies and units.

Investments in the project amounted to 325 million roubles.

According to the plans the electric bus assembled here will be put on the route next month.

Now the capital city is embarking on a large scale programme to replace the bus fleet with electric buses which will have a positive effect on the metropolitan ecology and make it possible to create new technological products.

As of today, according to the city authorities, the electric bus fleet in Moscow is the largest in Europe. The capital has practically stopped buying diesel or engine-powered buses. Already now, 600 electric buses carry passengers in Moscow.

The city has entered into life-cycle contracts under which manufacturers undertake maintenance of electric buses for 15 years.
