The Russian government plans to allocate more than 400 billion rubles to support electric transport

The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia plans to allocate over 400 billion rubles to support electric vehicles in the country in order to increase their volume from 0.1% to 15% by 2030.

According to Kommersant, citing a presentation by the Ministry, the program will be implemented by the national consortium headed by KAMAZ, which has previously presented a prototype of the Kama-1 electric car. The pilot regions will be Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Sevastopol and Kaliningrad.

According to the plan of the authorities, by 2022 the share of electric cars bought in Russia should be 1.7% in the market of 1.8 million cars and 15% in the market of 2.5 million electric cars by 2030. At the same time, the total fleet will include 1.5 million cars.

At the same time the government is going to limit imports of electric cars: from 2024 they are supposed to be subject to additional annual growth of scrappage. As the publication specifies, automotive companies will have to do localization: for example, in 2027 the battery and electric motor must be necessarily localized, which contradicts the current system of localization calculation.
