Russia assembled part of the hull for the Tianwan NPP

In Russia, the reactor lower hull is assembled for the Tianwan nuclear power plant.

The work is being carried out at the Volgograd enterprise Atommash, which is part of Rosatom's machine building division.

The reactor is a vertical cylindrical body with an elliptical bottom. Inside there is a core and intra-vessel devices. From above it is closed by a lid with the actuators of mechanisms and reactor control and protection devices mounted on it, and nozzles for output of cables of in-reactor control sensors.

Initially the vessel was assembled in the vertical position, then the 160-ton structure was transferred to the horizontal position with the help of tilting device and installed on the welding unit for welding of ring joints.

The welding process will be carried out automatically and will last for 17 days. All this time the heating temperature of the welds will be 150 to 300 ℃. After that, heat treatment of welds will take place to give the metal the necessary properties and remove residual weld stresses.

It is expected that Atommash NPP will produce two reactor vessels with internals, lid and top unit and two sets of steam generators.

The Tianwan NPP is located in China's Jiangsu Province.
