WHO may approve the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine by August

The World Health Organization (WHO) may approve the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine within a couple of months, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), told reporters.

"We think it (approval of the vaccine by the WHO - ed.) will be literally a couple of months, Europe - so far positive results of testing, no critical comments," Dmitriev said when asked when the Russian vaccine might be approved, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Earlier it was reported that RDIF had agreed to supply the Sputnik V vaccine to the UN Children's Fund after the vaccine was added to the list of products recommended by the WHO for purchase in an emergency situation. RDIF announced the application to the WHO for registration and re-qualification of Sputnik V in October 2020.

The Sputnik V vaccine is registered in 66 countries with a total population of over 3.2 billion people. Post-vaccination studies in several countries demonstrate that Satellite V is the safest and most effective vaccine against coronavirus. Sputnik V has the second highest number of approvals by government regulators worldwide.
