Rosselkhoznadzor denied information about Russia's dependence on imported eggs

Rosselkhoznadzor clarified the situation around the import of SPF eggs, which are used to manufacture certain types of vaccines for animals, and refuted the information about Russia's dependence on imported eggs.

"First of all, it should be noted that there is no shortage of food eggs in Russia. The country fully provides itself with domestic eggs and even exports them," said the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert.

He explained that previously in an interview to RBC he spoke only about SPF eggs, which are intended for production of certain vaccines for animals. Dankvert clarified that in this case we are talking about individual components of veterinary vaccines, which are not related to the production of vaccines for humans.

Now Rosselkhoznadzor carries out work aimed at reducing dependence on imported SPF eggs. For instance, in 2021 the federal center for protection of animal health subordinated to the organization will embark on the construction of an enterprise where such eggs will be produced. It is expected to open at the end of the next year.

Head of Rosselkhoznadzor points out that the current demand for SPF eggs to produce veterinary vaccines in Russia amounts to about 6 million eggs a year. The construction of the plant will make it possible to fully cover the country's needs and open up opportunities to expand the export range.
