Vegetable meat is gaining momentum among Russians
By 2025 each Russian citizen will consume up to 1 kg of vegetable meat annually on average. Such data were presented by Rosselkhozbank at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
"According to Rosselkhozbank forecasts, by 2025 a Russian citizen will consume on average up to 1 kilogram of vegetable meat per year, and the share of vegetable analogues of meat and vegetable-based drinks on the Russian market may reach 1.5% and 5-8% respectively," reported the press service of the bank.
According to experts, the forecast is based on gradual increase in availability of alternative food products.
According to materials, now plant-based analogues in Russia occupy less than 1% of the market: the most common are burgers, nuggets and cutlets made of plant meat, as well as beverages on a plant basis - from nuts, cereals and legumes.
According to the authors of the study, the development of alternative food segment will be determined by several factors: the demand for food resources (the world population is growing very rapidly), a responsible attitude towards nature and climate change.
"Traditionally, meat is perceived as a nutrient-rich product and a sign of affluence. Therefore, in the long term, the proliferation of alternative protein sources will lead to the premiumization of natural farm products, increase their production margin and, thus, have a positive impact on the development of traditional farming in the country," experts believe.
