 Modern foundry production will open in Karelia on the basis of Petrozavodskmash

The Petrozavodskmash foundry will be reformatted into a modern research and production enterprise, the government of Karelia and Transmashholding have agreed on this, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade (Minpromtorg) said.

"In 2020, the project to create a Foundry Production Competence Center on the basis of the Petrozavodskmash foundry LLC is recognized as an investment project. ...The implementation of the project will allow to reformat the plant, creating a modern scientific and production enterprise. There are plans to produce goods for different sectors of economy: pulp and paper industry, railway and ship-building sectors, wind energy", - Ministry reports.

The issue of foundry production development in the republic is one of the key ones in the industrial policy of the region. According to the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, cooperation with Transmashholding can bring the plant to the leading position in the Russian and foreign markets.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, high IT-technologies will help to organize modern foundry production at the plant. They are being developed by the Artificial Intelligence Center of Petrozavodsk State University. For example, the specialists of the Center have developed the system of monitoring of the equipment operation, which helps decrease the possibility of mistakes, trace eventual defects and prevent them. The technology is already being used on two of the plant's machines.

"Petrozavodskmash is the largest machine-building enterprise in Russia and CIS countries (formerly Tyazhbummash plant), founded in 1960. "Petrozavodskmash manufactures and supplies shell, tank and other equipment for the nuclear, petrochemical, pulp and paper industries. The company supplies its products to more than 40 countries.
