Russia recorded negative company mortality for the first time in 4 years

For the first time in four years, more companies opened in Russia than closed. Such data have been published in a new survey by the analytical service of FinExpertiza, an international audit and consulting network.

According to the survey, in April 2021 the number of launched businesses exceeded the number of liquidated by almost seven thousand (22.7 thousand against 15.1 thousand), writes TASS.

In May, the trend remained 15.2 thousand against 11.5 thousand.

"This has not happened for four years: the last time a business opened more often than closed in April 2017 - then in a month there were closed 32.2 thousand companies, and opened 36.6 thousand," the study says.

Analysts note that such a situation is recorded in 72 out of 85 Russian regions. The most positive trend was observed in Mordovia, where 78.8% of companies were closed down, and in Karachay-Cherkessia (75.4%), and Ingushetia (75).

The opposite trend was observed in Stavropol Krai, which closed 106.3% more companies than a year before, in Arkhangelsk Oblast (100%) and Tomsk Oblast (88.4%). And in 25 regions the number of open enterprises exceeded the number of closed ones. The leaders are as follows: Moscow (an increase by 768 enterprises), Sverdlovsk Oblast (631), Voronezh Oblast (311).

A total of 112.1 thousand enterprises were closed down in Russia in the first five months of 2021. A smaller number of closures in the same period was last recorded six years ago, in 2015.
