Fish production in Chelyabinsk will increase to 7 thousand tons

The Chelyabinsk Oblast is going to increase the commercial fish production by more than 1.6 times to 7 thousand tons by 2026. The regional Ministry of Agriculture told about it.

According to TASS, the main emphasis in the development will be made on cage fish farming, as well as industrial fish farming with closed water supply systems. "But pasture-based fish farming should also be developed. The growth will be largely due to new, promising, fish species, including white amur, black amur, bighead carp and pike. And in 2025 the region is to receive 7 thousand tons of marketable fish", - the department informed.

The ministry also works on creation of fish-breeding plots.

Thus, this year seven new sites for pasture production and two sites for industrial aquaculture have already been approved.

Currently, 161 fish breeding areas have been formed in the region, where whitefish, sturgeon and other fish species are raised.

In 2020, the volume of catch was 4 thousand 26 tons - an increase of 1.4 times compared to 2015. This year at least 4.3 thousand tons of fish is expected.
